Mrs. Clara Catherine Dickerson, 71, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1976, at the Miami County Hospital after becoming ill at her home, R1, Osawatomie. The oldest of five children of William D. and Ethel Surprise McClintock, she was born in Altoona on Oct. 3, 1905.

She moved to Osawatomie with her family when she was two years old where she attended school graduating with the Osawatomie High School class of 1923. She also attended the Ursuline Junior College of Paola and Kansas State College, Pittsburg.

Following graduation she taught in elementary schools in Osawatomie, Fontana and the Miami County school system from 1923 until her retirement in 1972.

For a few years throughout her career she worked as a medial secretary for Dr. W. L. Speer. She also served as superintendent of Miami County schools for a number of years.

Mrs. Dickerson was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Osawatomie, the United Methodist Women, and the Philathea Sunday School Class. She was an active member of the American Association of University Women, the National Ursuline Alumni Organization, Miami County Teachers Association and other teachers organizations.

Other memberships included the Miami County Historical Society, the Business and Professional Women's Club, Order of the Eastern Star and Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority.

She also belonged to several senior citizens organizations. Mrs. Dickerson spent much of her time in recent years doing volunteer work at Lakemary Center in Paola and the Holiday Manor nursing home in Osawatomie.

Her political career included serving as secretary of the Miami County Republican Women's group.

She was married in Ottawa on Aug. 2, 1926, to Alfred H. Moriston and they became the parents of one daugher, Patricia. Mr. Moriston preceded her in death in December of 1939.

On Nov. 26, 1942, she was married in Osawatomie to Dike Dickerson, who also preceded her in death on June 25, 1972.

Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Patricia Raymer, Kansas City, Kan.; her mother, Mrs. Ethel McClintock, and a brother, Leslie McClintock, both of Osawatomie; three sisters, Mrs. Alice Powell, Osawatomie, Mrs. Virginia Mullins, Vinita, Okla., and Mrs. Elnora Miller, Cookeville, Tenn.; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Services were conducted by the Rev. Keith Alberding at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Eddy Chapel in Osawatomie. Music was provided by Mrs. Mary Ricketts and Mrs. Dorothy Heckart, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Nell Dollar.

Honorary pallbearers were Archie Parks and Erwin Grant. Serving in the active capacity were Randall Mullins, Clark Powell, Michael Powell, William Powell, Brian Powell and Michael Fixley. Burial was in the Osawatomie Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Osawatomie.
