Graveside services for Thelma Katy Hunsperger, Osawatomie, were held April 15 in the Osawatomie Cemetery.

Mrs. Hunsperger, a longtime resident of the Osawatomie community, died Saturday, April 11, 1998 in Heritage Manor. She was 94.

The daughter of Fred F. and Ethel May Plummer Jenkins, she was born April 5, 1904 in Hillsdale. She attended school in Hillsdale until the family moved to Osawatomie in 1920. She graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1923. She rarely missed the OHS Alumni reunions.

Her father owned and operated Jenkins Hardware Store in Osawatomie for many years.

On June 9, 1923 she and George C. Hunsperger were married. They lived in Topeka, Wichita, Kansas City and Salt Lake City, Utah. They became the parents of three daughters.

In 1934 Mr. and Mrs. Hunsperger purchased the Osawatomie Dairy/Tavern and returned to the Midwest. They worked together until the business was sold.

Mrs. Hunsperger was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Osawatomie and its Philathea Sunday School Class. She was a lifetime member and past president of United Methodist Women. She was a member of Osawatomie Chapter No. 26, Order of Easten Star, and served on the council for International Order of Job's Daughters. She was also a member of the Friendly Garden Club and an extension unit.

Among those preceding her in death were her husband, George; her two sisters; and two grandsons.

Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn Reading, Oklahoma City, Okla., Wylamene Bigelow, Ottawa and Georgia Pulhamus, LaCygne; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Lee Wiersma was the officiant. Mary Jennings and Susan Hiebl, granddaughters, sang. Arrangements were under the direction of Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established in her name to the church.
