Services for Maggie I. Day, Osawatomie, were held Monday in the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home.

Mrs. Day died Friday, July 24, 1998 in Anderson County Hospital, Garnett. She was 97.

The daughter of Frank and Mary Wingert Ackerly, she was born June 21, 1901 in rural Osawatomie. She attended Osawatomie schools, graduating from Osawatomie High School in 1923.

On Feb. 22, 1924, she and Bernal Pontious were married. They made their home in the Spring Ridge Community. He died in December 1959.

She married Clarence Day in 1966 and they made their home in Osawatomie. Mr. Day died in 1982.

Mrs. Day was a homemaker. She was a former member of Spring Ridge Presbyterian Church and a member of the Osawatomie First United Methodist Church.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and a half sister.

Survivors include a son, Eldon Pontious, Garnett; a daughter, Wilma Wingo, Ottawa; a sister, Kittie Wilson, Osawatomie; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Sharon Brown Chappell officiated. Music was provided by Rosalie Bowker, Diana Wright and Mrs. Day's grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Chad Farrar, Heath Farrar, Rex Wilson, Jim Wingo, Bob Wingo and Tim Bailey. Burial was in Osawatomie Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her name to the Osawatomie church.
