RAYMOND HARMONY

 

CLASS OF 1922

Memorial services for Raymond C. “Bob” Harmony, Osawatomie, are set for 11 a.m. Saturday in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. Mr. Harmony, 91, died Friday, Aug 9, 1996 in Meadowbrook Rehabilitation Center in Gardner. Born Feb. 14, 1905 near Fortuna in Moniteau County, MO., he was the son of William Christian and Gertha Scott Harmony. His family moved to Osawatomie when he was 3 years old and he spent the balance of his life in Osawatomie with the exception of one year when he was working in St. Louis. He was educated in Osawatomie Schools, graduating from Osawatomie High School in 1922. He attended Huff’s Business College in Kansas City, MO. On April 30, 1927 he and Gwendolyn Leone Kendall were married in Coffeyville. They became the parents of three sons and one daughter. On Feb. 1, 1970, he retired from Missouri Pacific Railroad. He had served the railroad for 45 years as a clerk, assistant to the superintendent and transportation assistant. Mr. Harmony was active in the life of the community, serving as mayor of the city of Osawatomie in 1976-77 ans as a city commissioner. He had also served as clerk of the board of education for Osawatomie schools. His memberships included the First United Methodist Church and Osage Valley Lodge No. 24; A.F.&A.M. both of Osawatomie; Scottish Rite Bodies of Kansas City, KS; and Greeters Unit of Abdallah Shrine of Overland Park. Among those preceding him in death were his wife and a son, Raymond. Survivors include two sons, Byron Harmony, Caldwell, N.J. and Kent Harmony, Littleton, CO; a daughter, Linda Fedier, Osawatomie; and seven grandchildren. The Rev. Lee Wiersma will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 am until service time. Inurnment will be in Osawatomie Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his name to the church.
