Lewis Albert Day, 90, Osawatomie, died Tuesday, August 21, 1990, at the Wayne Care Centre in Wayne, Neb.

Known as Ab, he was born Aug. 13, 1900, in Osawatomie, the second of four children of Lewis Edwin and Caddie B. Roberts Day.

He attended the Plum Creek Country School and graduated from the Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1921. He then attended auto mechanics school and telegraphy school.

He was married on Nov. 17, 1923, in Kansas City, Mo., to Josephine Berry. They made their home in Osawatomie and became the parents of one son.

Mr. Day worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad from the mid 1920s until 1970 when he retired. During that time he worked as telegrapher, car dispatcher, and station agent.

The Days moved to Wayne, Neb., in October 1985 to be near their son but had continued to also maintain their home in Osawatomie. Mr. Day moved to the Wayne Care Centre in September 1988.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Osawatomie, of which he had been financial secretary for 10 years. He also belonged to the Transportation, Communication International Union. He was a former Rotarian.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two sisters, Alta Durrant and LoRee VanPelt.

Surviving are his wife, Josephine Day of the home; his son, James Day of Wayne, Neb.; one grandson; and a brother, Roberts Day of Chicago, Illinois.

The services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Osawatomie, with the Rev. Ted Hunter officiating. Music was provided by Eva Whetstone, organist, and Ike McMahon, soloist. The selections were "In the Garden" and "Going Home."

The burial was in the Elmdale Cemetery at Osawatomie.

Memorials were established in his name to the First United Methodist Church.
