LOUISE JACKSON CHURCHILL

AUGUST 16, 1900 - DECEMBER 23, 1995

Helen Louisa Churchill, 95, Paola, died Saturday, December 23, 1995, at the Country Club Estates in Paola.

She was born Aug. 16, 1900 in Indian Territory near Winslow, Ariz., the oldest of two children born to Harry Alonzo and Ada Adelia Long Jackson. The family moved to Osawatomie while she was a child.

She attended school there and graduated from the Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1919. She then attended the Huff Business College and lived in Kansas City for three years before returning to Osawatomie.

She was married to John Joseph Churchill on Sept. 6, 1926. They made their home in Osawatomie and became the parents of one daughter. He died Sept 11, 1956.

Mrs. Churchill was employed by the Missouri Pacific Railroad and was secretary to the chief clerk and then became the secretary to the superintendent. She retired after 20 years of service.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Osawatomie, the May Day Club and Music Club of Paola.

She was an active member and sewed for the Red Cross during World War II. She did mending for the Miami County Hospital for six years and for more than 14 years she worked in the Thrift Shop of the First United Presbyterian Church of Paola.

She had made her home in Paola since 1974.

Her parents and a sister also preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughter, Eileen Louisa Spears of rural Paola; two grandchildren, Suzanne Wilcox of rural Paola, and Richard Joseph Frolik of Overland Park; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Osawatomie under the direction of the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home of Osawatomie. The Rev. Leslie Murphy officiated. Dean Diediker sang "In the Garden: and "The Lord's Prayer" accompanied at the piano by Carol Uhlenhop.

Burial was in the Osawatomie Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were C. H. Freeman, David Miller, John Cole, Bob Sharp, Ted Lewis, and David Hallstrom. Honorary bearers were Bob Wilson, Fred Wicke, Roy Williams and Roy Taylor.
