FEBRUARY 24, 1902 - JANUARY 15, 1960

Miss Ruby Kay Grow, 57, of Osawatomie died at her home there January 15, 1960, following a long illness. Miss Grow was born in Osawatomie, February 24, 1902, daughter of Anna Laura and the late Edward D. Grow. She entered the Osawatomie schools, graduating from high school in 1919. She received her B.A. degree from the College of Emporia in 1927 and her Master's from NorthwesternUniversity in 1939.

After serving as secretary to Supt. Geo. A. York of the Osawatomie city schools, in 1925-26 Miss Grow taught in the Lane high school two years and at Spring Hill six years. In 1935 she joined the faculty of the Labette county community high school, Altamont, where she was an English instructor, dean of women and director of guidance until her last illness. In Altamont she served as Sunday school superintendent at the Methodist church and was active in Methodist youth work.

Miss Grow was a member of the Osawatomie Presbyterian church until transferring to the Altamont church. She was a member of the Phi Lambda Theta Honorary Society of Northwestern University, past president of the Chi chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, honorary society of women teachers, a member of Altamont Y.W.C.A., Fine Arts club and a 40-year member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Brotherhood of R.R. Trainmen, Osawatomie.

Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Laura Grow of Osawatomie; two brothers, David of the home in Osawatomie and Rexford of Kansas City; two sisters, Mrs. Cecil Wall of Wichita and Mrs. Glen Spencer of San Diego, and four nieces.

Funeral services were held in the First Methodist church, Osawatomie, Monday at 2:30. Rev. Howard Johnson, Osawatomie Presbyterian pastor, and Herman F. Harrison, superintendent of the Labette county community high school, officiated. Mrs. Alma Lee Shell, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Nell Dollar, sang "Prayer Perfect" and "Sunrise Tomorrow." Mrs. Belva Wingfield, Mrs. Margarete Sherman, Mrs. Josephine Dickey, Mrs. Ruth Morgan, Mrs. Mildred Bowles and Mrs. Mildred Klotz had charge of the flowers. Pallbearers were W. E. Bodenhamer, Geo. Lofv, R. H. Laird, Curtis Sides, M. L. Wilbershide and Loren Palmer. Graveside service was conducted by Delta Kappa Gamma honorary society. Interment was in the Elmdale cemetery, Osawatomie, under direction of Birchard Funeral Home.
