EDWARD EMMART

CLASS OF 1918

Edward James Emmart, 80, died Dec. 18, 1977, at the Miami County Hospital, after several months' illness. Son of the late John Emmart Sr. and Nellie Mae Sullenger Emmart, he was born Sept 1, 1897, near Bolivar, MO.

The family moved to Paola, where they resided until 1905, when they moved to the farm near Fontana. Mr. Emmart attended school at Fontana and graduated from the Osawatomie High School in 1918.

He then went to the Rahe Auto and Tractor School in Kansas City.  Upon completion of the course he returned to Paola to do auto repair work for Sanford R. Sinkey, Chevrolet dealer.

Later, Mr. Emmart founded Emmart Battery & Electric Company. In 1945 his son, Harold, became a partner. Mr. Emmart retired in 1969 and the business is now operated by his son.

On July 20, 1920 he was united in marriage to Sadie Marie Geuy of Osawatomie. Mr. Emmart was a member of the Parker Avenue Church of Christ in Osawatomie. 

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marie Emmart, of the home; a son, Harold Eugue Emmart, Olathe; a daughter, Edith Irene, wife of Robert C. Nichols, Paola; three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Alvis, North Kansas City, Mrs. Hazel Francis, Kansas City, and Mrs. Mabel Keitel, Fontana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, John Emmart Jr., and two grandsons, Edward Gene Emmart and Ronald Dean Emmart.

Funeral Services, under the direction of Cltrin's Chapel, Paola, were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at the First Christian Church, Paola. The Rec. Eric Osborne, pastor of the Parker Avenue Church of Christ, officiated.
