Funeral services for Mrs. Celina Ellen Verdier Shively, 69, Osawatomie, were held Thursday morning at the Eddy Funeral home with Rev. Clark Harbach officiating. Pallbearers were Jeff Cox, Howard Matney, George Pretz, Carl Hiles, Everett Coleman and Hollis Hunt. Burial was in the Osawatomie cemetery.

Mrs. Shively died April 14, 1969 in Bethany hospital, Kansas City, Kansas, following a stroke. She was born June 23, 1899 at St. Joseph, the daughter of Garland and Aura Hughes Verdier. In 1906, she came with her parents to Miami County and they settled on a farm two miles west of Osawatomie. Mrs. Shively attended the Indianapolis grade school and graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1917 as valedictorian. The following fall she taught at Chestnut Grove school.

On November 11, 1917 she was married to Irl R. Shively. During her early marriage, she became a member of First Baptist Church.

For over 20 years, she worked as a clerk in several downtown stores. She was a member of the Osawatomie Music Club and the Osage Valley Social Club.

Surviving are her husband of the home; two daughters, Margaret Smith of Mt. Morris, Mich., and Helen Marie Satzler of Topeka; five grandchildren; one brother, Harvey Verdier of Topeka, and one sister, Eva Haigh of Osawatomie.
