Graveside services for Sylvia Maher Bowers, Osawatomie, were held Tuesday in the Osawatomie Cemetery.

Mrs. Bowers, lifelong resident of Osawatomie and former Osawatomie city clerk, died Friday, March 27, 1992, in Country Haven Adult Care Center, Paola. She was 93.

The daughter of James and Mary Rose Maher, she was born May 28, 1898, in Osawatomie. She received her education in Osawatomie schools, graduating from Osawatomie High School in 1916.

She and Roy Gray Bowers were married May 31, 1924 in Osawatomie.

She served as city clerk for 18 years, starting in 1953.

Her memberships included the First United Methodist Church, Osawatomie Chapter No. 26 of the Order of Eastern Star and Chapter DO of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, all in Osawatomie, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Among those preceding her in death were her husband and two sisters, Ruth Maher and Ruby McIntosh.

Survivors include a daughter, Royla J. Wilson, Osawatomie; a son, Roy J. Bowers, Acworth, Ga.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

The Rev. Ted Hunter officiated.
