FRANK KING

CLASS OF 1916 

NOVEMBER 27, 1896 - OCTOBER 21, 1987

Services for Frank Petro 'Kingey' King, Osawatomie, were held Saturday in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home.

Mr. King died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1987, at the home of a son, Henry King, in Osawatomie, after a long illness. He was 90.

The son of James H. and Katherine Jacobs King, he was born Nov. 27, 1896 in Lane, Kansas. He attended Union Valley Grade School and was a 1916 graduate of Osawatomie High School.

He and Nelleda D. Dickey were married Oct. 7, 1916 in Paola. They were parents of five sons.

Mrs. King taught school at Middle Creek School for a time and later worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad and the Osawatomie Elevator. In 1966, he retired after 25 years as a custodian at the old Meek School and its replacement, West Elementary School in Osawatomie. During his work at the school he became known as 'Kingey', a name fondly used by hundreds of students he knew and who loved him for his kindness and helpfulness.

He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene of Osawatomie, which he attended and worked actively in until ill health confined him to his home.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Nelleda, who died in 1971; three sons, Melvin Franklin King and Marvin King, who died in infancy; and Marion E. King, who died in World War II; a sister, Elsie Dickey; and a great-grandson, Mark Alan Phifer.

Survivors include two sons, Henry E. King, and Emery L. King, Osawatomie; a sister, Elizabeth Wiley, Fairview, Texas; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

The Rev. Raymond Brunet officiated. The organist was Dorothy Eddleman, who accompanied Joyce Jones and Jan Evans who sang "Sheltered in the Arms of God." Pallbearers were Bernie Eddleman, Randy Stewart, Vern Van Camp, Douglas Chisam, Burk Barnett, and Jim Stewart. Burial was in Elmdale Cemetery, Osawatomie.
