MARCH 3, 1896 - NOVEMBER 26, 1951

Eldon M. Brown, 55 years old, Osawatomie banker and civic leader, died suddenly Monday evening en route by ambulance to a Kansas City hospital. He had been ill only since the preceding night. Cause of his death was an abdominal hemorrhage.

Mr. Brown began his banking career in Osawatomie as a young man, joining the staff of the First National bank when it was organized more than a quarter of a century ago. He had been cashier of the institution for many years.

He was born March 3, 1896, at Mapleton, Kansas, son of Mrs. and Mrs. Thomas V. Brown. He attended the Osawatomie schools, graduating from the high school in 1915, and served in the United States army during World War I. He was a charter member and active in the Osawatomie Rotary club and the Chamber of Commerce, was a member of the Methodist church, Masonic order and B.P.O.E.

He is survived by his wife, the former Nora Uhls, a son, Robert N. Brown of Osawatomie; a daughter, Mrs. Gracia Ann Hoffman of Ottawa; three sisters, Mrs. L. G. Shawver and Mrs. A. D. Uhls, both of Kansas City, and Mrs. Minnie Brillhart of Fort Scott, and a brother, Dwight Brown of Chanute.

The funeral was held Thursday afternoon, Nov.29, 1951, at the Eddy Funeral home with the Rev. William I. Hastie officiating. Burial was in the new Osawatomie cemetery.
