 Charles Willard Cook Sr., 83, Overland Park, died Monday, March 5, 1979, at St. Joseph Hospital, Kansas City, He was born in Osawatomie and had lived in the Kansas City area 39 years.

Mr. Cook attended school in Osawatomie and graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1914.

Mr. Cook attended the University of Kansas, Lawrence, and graduated from Gem City Business College, Quincy, Ill, in 1915. He was active in the garment industry most of his life. He operated a ready-to-wear store in Osawatomie for 12 years. He had been general manager for Dean Jones Sportswear 10 years and Chaernie Creations 10 years. He was a member of the Kansas City Apparel Association.

Mr. Cook was mayor of Leawood from 1953 to 1955, and president of Leawood City Council from 1951 to 1953. He was an election commissioner 12 years before his retirement in 1972. He was a former member of the executive board of the Johnson County Republican Central Committee.

He was a member of the Abdallah Shrine and Masonic Lodge No. 24 of Osawatomie. He was also a member of the Leawood United Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Beeson Cook, of the home in Overland Park; two sons, Charles Willard Cook Jr., Leawood, and Warren Beeson Cook, Louisville, Ky.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at the Newcomer Overland Park Chapel. Services were at 2:30 p.m. at the Osawatomie Cemetery with Masonic services at graveside, under the direction of the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home of Osawatomie.
