ALMA REYNOLDS MULLINS

CLASS OF 1912 

MARCH 1, 1895 – NOVEMBER 20, 1986

Services for longtime Osawatomie area resident, Margaret Alma Mullins, were held Sunday in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mullins died Thursday [November 20, 1986] in Regency Health Care Center at the age of 91.

Born March 1, 1895, near Richmond, she was the daughter of Carlton A. and Belle Collista Porter Reynolds. When she was still an infant, the family moved to Osawatomie where she attended school. She graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1912 as valedictorian of her class. She then attended Emporia State University and taught local schools.

On Feb. 2, 1920, she married Chester L. Mullins. They lived on the Mullins-Roberts homestead near Osawatomie and farmed for many years. After their retirement, they moved to Osawatomie.

Mrs. Mullins was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, both of Osawatomie and Plum Creek. Memberships also included United Methodist Women, the We Mean Business Sunday School Class, Osawatomie Chapter No. 26 of the Order of Eastern Star, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, World War I Barracks Auxiliary, Osawatomie Historical Society, GFWC Monday Club and an extension homemakers unit.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Chester, and a brother, Ralph Peter Reynolds.

Survivors include three sons, John R. Mullins, Osawatomie, Frederick Mullins, Kent, Wash., and Richard Mullins, Denver, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Ted Hunter conducted the services. Dorothy Heckart and Josephine Dickey sang, accompanied by Nelle Dollar, organist. Pallbearers were Mark Atwood, Ralph Diehm, Mark Manly, David Wilson, Raymond Mathia, and Bill Troxel. Burial was in Osawatomie Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her name to the United Methodist Church of Osawatomie.
