NOVEMBER 9, 1892 - FEBRUARY 9, 1979

Final Rites for Irl Shively, 86, of 420 Brown Ave., were held Monday in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. Mr. Shively died Friday, Feb. 9 in Olathe Community Hospital where he had been a patient since Jan. 11.

Mr. Shively was born Nov. 9, 1892, on a farm west of Osawatomie and his parents were John Louis and Mary Ellen Russell Shively. He graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1911 and taught at Meek Grade School the following year.

Mr. Shively was a member of the Osawatomie City Bank and directed a family orchestra that played for the dedication of the Osawatomie High School in 1917.

He married Celina Ellen Verdier Nov. 11, 1917, and they were parents of two daughters. Mrs. Shively died April 17, 1969.

Mr. Shively was a farmer.

He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Osawatomie; Osawatomie Chapter of the Kansas Old Time Fiddlers, Pickers, and Singers; and the Miami County Farm Bureau.

Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Smith, Osawatomie, and Helen Satzler, Topeka, and five grandchildren.

The Rev. Alan McDaniel officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Howard Matney, Hollis Hunt, George Pretz, Everett Coleman, Merle Stone, and Robert Kitchen. Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Cox, Hazle Martin, and Elmer Stone. Burial was in Osawatomie Cemetery.
