GLEN SHAWVER

JANUARY 19, 1893 - MAY 31, 1950

The death of Glenn A. Shawver, switch foreman for the Missouri Pacific at Osawatomie for nearly four decades, occurred at St. Mary's Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., Wednesday morning, May 31, 1950. Mr. Shawver became ill shortly after returning home from work in the yards at Osawatomie Monday and was taken to the hospital that night. He was 57 years old.

Mr. Shawver was born January 19, 1893, south of Osawatomie, son of C. T. and Martha Ann Shawver. After finishing grade and high school (graduating in 1911) he entered the service of the Missouri Pacific railroad as baggage man under C. R. Horton, then agent at Osawatomie.

Except for his period of service in the U. S. Army during WW 1 and two years as salesman for Liggett and Myers Tobacco Co., he spent his entire working years with the railroad. For over thirty ears he was a member of the Presbyterian Church, B.P.O.E. No. 921 and Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen.

On Sept. 18, 1923, he was united in marriage with Helen Edmiston of Paola and all his leisure time was spent in his home or following his favorite sports of fishing and hunting. He and Mrs. Shawver made their home in Osawatomie with the exception of four years from 1938 to 1942 when they lived in Paola.

The funeral will be held at Eddy's chapel in Osawatomie this (Friday) afternoon at 2:30 and interment will be in the lot by the graves of his father and mother in the Osawatomie cemetery.

Mr. Shawver is survived by his widow of the home: one sister, Mrs. Frances Flinchum of Wichita; and two brothers, L. G. Shawver of Kansas City and Karl V. Shawver of Paola.
