CHESTER L. MULLINS

CLASS OF 1909

SEPTEMBER 28, 1888 - OCTOBER 18, 1975

Final rites for Chester L. Mullins were held Tuesday (October 21) in Eddy Funeral Home. Mr. Mullins, 87, died Saturday (October 18), in the Miami County Hospital, Paola.

Born Sept. 28, 1888 at the Mullins homestead northwest of Osawatomie, he was the son of Robert H. and Florence A. Roberts Mullins. He attended Stockwell School and was a 1909 graduate of Osawatomie High School.

He attended Kansas State College at Manhattan, later joining a surveyor team in Colorado. He later returned to the farm.

Mr. Mullins was a member of Company D of the National Guard and was with the unit in 1904 when Theodore Roosevelt dedicated the John Brown Memorial Park.

He served during World War I in England and France.

Following the war, he returned to the Mullins farm and was married to Alma Reynolds Feb. 4, 1920 in Osawatomie. They were parents of three sons.

Mr. Mullins was a member of the United Methodist Church; Veterans of World War I; and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Among the survivors are the widow, Alma, of the home; three sons, John Robert Mullins, Osawatomie, Fred Mullins, Seattle, Wash., and Richard Mullins, Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Mrs. Adelaide Barels, Whittier, Calif., and Mrs. Ruth Douglas, Kansas City, Kan.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Clayton Pittman officiated at the services. Mrs. Glenn Ricketts and Mrs. Charles Heckert sang, accompanied by Mrs. Ida Phares, organist. Active pallbearers were Carl Dudley, Joseph Whiteford, Merle Ensle, Vern ensle, Randall Mullins and Loren Mullins. Honorary pallbearers were Mark Manly, Wayne Diediker, Laverne Diediker, Emmett Mullins, Richard Eastwood and George Hunsperger. Military services were conducted at the graveside by Hanlin-Kelley Post No. 2258, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
