CANDACE MARIE KITCHEN CASE

APRIL 25, 1891 - SEPTEMBER 8, 1972

Mrs. Candace Marie Case, 81, of Osawatomie, died September 8, 1972, in the Miami County Hospital. Mrs. Case was a lifetime resident of the Osawatomie community. She was born on a farm west of Osawatomie on April 25, 1891, the daughter of James W. and Martha Michaels Kitchen.

She attended the rural school in the Green Valley community and graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1909. After studying at the teachers college in Emporia, the Institute of Fine Arts in Kansas City and Central Institute for the deaf in St. Louis, she taught many years in the Osawatomie schools. Her marriage to John L. Case took place December 29, 1915. Since 1918 they made their home in Osawatomie where Mrs. Case was active in community affairs. She was a member of the United Methodist Church serving as Sunday school superintendent 14 years. Her church service numbered over 60 years. She was past president of the second district Kansas Federation of Women's club and served several years on the state board. She was past president of the Osawatomie Monday club and of the Osawatomie Alumni Association, past matron of the Eastern Star, served on the Osawatomie board of education, the library board and John Brown park board.

Surviving are her husband of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Robert Gaunce, Kansas City, and one sister, Martha Kitchen of Osawatomie.

Funeral services were held in the Eddy chapel Sunday. Rev. Clayton Pittman officiated. Pallbearers were Zola Carey, Ted Lucand, Chester Ward, Carl Day, George Hunsperger, Robert Ramsey, Russell Cartwright and Lynn Bauman. Burial was in Green Valley cemetery.
