ETHEL STOCKWELL WHITNEY

CLASS OF 1906

MAY 5, 1887 - SEPTEMBER 7, 1965

Mrs. Ethel May Whitney, 78, Osawatomie died September 7, 1965 at her home after a long illness. The daughter of Harry and Effie Stockwell, she was born May 5, 1887 in Miami County. Her childhood and most of her entire life was spent in Miami County and the Plum Creek neighborhood.

She attended Osawatomie High School and graduated with the Class of 1906.

She was married to Fred A. Whitney June 15, 1910 and to them one son, Fred Ernest, was born. Mrs. Whitney was a lifelong member of the Plum Creek Methodist church and was very active in church and community activities.

Mrs. Whitney is survived by her husband of the home; her son, two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren and one brother, Herbert Stockwell of Paola.

Funeral services were held Friday in the Plum Creek Methodist church with Rev. Kenneth Clark officiating at 2 p.m. Miss Shirley Oyster sang "Going Down the Valley" and "Old Rugged Cross" accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Flossie Hines.

Pallbearers were Willis Smith, Howard Vaughn, Hollis Hunt, Galen Hunt, William Wilson and Elmer Hay. Burial was in the Osawatomie cemetery under the direction of the Eddy Funeral Home.
