WILLIAM FRED FITTELL

CLASS OF 1903

APRIL 18, 1885 - APRIL 29, 1958

William Fred Fittell, 73, yard foreman and switchman for the Missouri Pacific at Osawatomie, died at the company hospital in St. Louis, April 29, 1958. He was born April 18, 1885, at Clifton, Kans., son of John and Mary Fittell. He located at Osawatomie in his youth and was educated there graduating from Osawatomie High School in 1903. His marriage to Margaret Welch took place April 9, 1908. Their only son, Walter Fred Fittell, died in infancy.

Mr. Fittell served as secretary-treasurer of the Brotherhood of Railway trainmen over 35 years. . He was a member of the Osawatomie Christian Church, serving as an elder since 1942. Also he was a member of the Masonic lodge. Surviving are his wife and one daughter, Marquetta, of the home and four sisters.

The funeral was held at the Birchard chapel, Osawatomie, H. Bussell, Christian minister, officiating. Interment was in the Osawatomie cemetery, with Masonic services at the grave. Pallbearers were Foster Conklin, John L. Perrin, Ray D. Huckshorn, M. M. Beville, Earl Rohrer and Don Lindsey.
