NELSON J. ROSCOE

THE CLASS OF 1898

Nelson J. Roscoe, 69, died at his home in Osawatomie Thursday morning, January 26, 1950 following a week's critical illness, although his health had been failing several years.

The son of the late C. A. and Elizabeth Roscoe, Nelson Roscoe was born February 16, 1880 in Osawatomie where he spent his entire life with the exception of a few years in Amarillo, Tex. His marriage to Cora Lang, of Osawatomie took place March 30, 1901 and three children were born to them, Nelson, Jr. of Bakersfield, Calif.; Hazel, wife of Ralph Cunningham of Cleveland, Ohio and Eugene of Heavener, Okla. At one time Mr. Roscoe was employed in the Peiker and Scheer Grocery in Paola. For the past eleven years he has operated a small grocery in his home in Osawatomie. He was a member of the A.F. & A.M. lodge, No. 37 of Paola and of the I.O.O.F. lodge of Osawatomie.

Besides his children, he is survived by one brother, R. J. Roscoe of Paola, and a niece, Mrs. Thelma Davis of New York City.

Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church in Osawatomie at 2:30 Sunday afternoon with Rev. Kenneth J. McCullah of Paola officiating. Mrs. Clate Keefauver, accompanied by Mrs. Harold Emmart, sang "Sunrise Tomorrow" and "God Understands". Pallbearers were Dean Huff, Roy Everhart, Ned Wilson, C. W. Davis, Alvin Russell, H. D.Dysart, Clate Keefauver and W. E. Griffin. Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Dysart of Paola, Mrs. Frank Case and Mrs. Thomas Lyons of Osawatomie. Burial was in the Osawatomie cemetery.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Roscoe, Heavener, Okla., Mrs. and Mrs. George Caylor, Merriam, Mrs. and Mrs. Bob Hopkins and Mrs. Ola Roscoe of Kansas City.
