FRANK H. SMITH

Frank H. Smith, 76, of 8324 Terrace St., Kansas City, Mo., died March 22, 1952 at Trinity Lutheran Hospital in Kansas City after a very brief illness. He had suffered a stroke at his home on March 19.

Mr. Smith was born at Osawatomie on May 31, 1875; the son of Henry B. and Mary P. Smith, who were pioneers in this community. They came here from Pennsylvania in 1858. Mr. Smith's father was the first mayor of Osawatomie. The family home was at Ninth and Main Streets. Mr. Smith attended school in Osawatomie and was a member of the first class to graduate from the high school in 1894.

On October 6, 1898, Frank H. Smith and Sadee Mittong of Holden, Mo., were united in marriage. Mrs. Smith is the sister of Mrs. Joseph F. Johnson of this city. Mr. Smith was then employed in the Missouri Pacific offices here. In 1900 he left Osawatomie for residence at Pittsburg, Kas., and later at Bakersfield, Calif., and Ogden, Utah, at which latter place he was employed by the Ogden Union Railway company until his retirement in 1944 at which time he and Mrs. Smith moved to Kansas City. Mr. Smith was a Mason and a member of the Episcopal church.

Besides his widow, Mr. Smith is survived by a niece, Mrs. Mary Beeson Cook of Leawood, Kas., and two nephews, Frank E. Beeson of New Orleans, La., and Richard H. Beeson of Kansas City. He was a brother of the late Mrs. O. T. Beeson of this city.

Funeral services were held in the Birchard Funeral Home, Monday, March 24, 1952 at 1:00 p.m., Rev. William I. Hastie officiating. Mrs. Esther Teeter and Mrs. Gertrude Price accompanied by Rex Grow at the piano sang "Beautiful Isle" and "Rock of Ages." The pallbearers were Willard Cook, Warren Cook, Charles Cook, Ralph Beeson, Richard Beeson, jr., and J. Lillard Johnson.

Interment was in the Oakwood cemetery with Osage Valley Lodge No. 24 A.F. & A.M. in charge of graveside services.
